Blizzard cancels Blizzcon 2024

Blizzard announced today that they are canceling Blizzcon for this year.

Even though the company says in its statement

rest assured that we are just as excited as ever to bring BlizzCon back in future years.

it’s not looking too good for big Gaming/Entertainment Trade Shows in the future. With E3 closing up shop permanently and Nintendo just last week announcing it’s not going to be at this year's Gamescom, the one remaining name besides the Tokyo Game Show it looks like it really is down to “Summer Game Fest” in the end, which is a bit sad.
The Big Name Publishers all have opted to present their big news and games in individual events which helps them control the message better than with an external partner. I’m also sure that money is playing its part, too (Having a lavish Booth, Rent, Marketing and Entertainment people, but that could all be jotted down under PR)

But what the own Events never can replace is the big gathering and meetings of all the people who went to such a big trade show, and I think it’s a bit sad to lose that.
